Acumen’s core technology is based on discoveries by the company’s founders:  Dr. Grant Krafft, Dr. William Klein, and Dr. Caleb Finch.  These internationally recognized scientists discovered ADDLs and demonstrated that they are highly neurotoxic, their pathology matches AD, and they block essential pathways in nerve cells responsible for memory.  These discoveries are based on over 6 years of research at Northwestern University and the University of Southern California that established ADDLs as a primary cause of AD.  Northwestern University and University of Southern California hold joint patents claiming the composition of matter and methods of use of ADDLs.  Acumen owns or has exclusive rights to issued patents claiming composition of matter and methods of use for ADDLs in the United States, Europe, Japan, and Australia and over 30 pending US and international patents claiming compositions of matter and methods of use for ADDLs, ADDL receptors, and ADDL receptor and signaling antagonists.
